The Problem with Open Source

Just a reminder: open source means the code is published publicly. For example, this is Bitcoin's GitHub. You can fork it and create your own cryptocurrency.
Advantages
It's a known programming flex to contribute to an open source project. Everybody can report an issue, open a Pull Request, and you can put on your resume: "Developer of Bitcoin." And companies love open source — sometimes we even talk about specific open source libraries during interviews. And this is the part where I like to steer the conversation somewhere more interesting.
